Ancient Larches

These trees, which are perhaps among the oldest and mightiest in Europe can be found towards the top of the Ulten Valley in St. Gertraud. The three weather-beaten "Ancient Larches of Ulten" have withstood over 70 generations and at over 2000 years old demonstrate nature's will to survive. The tallest of the larches is a proud 36.5 metres in height, another has an amazing girth of 8.34 metres. They are probably one of the most impressive natural monuments in Europe.
