Eschenlohe Castle

Heading into the valley, just outside the village of St. Pankraz on the left hand side, you can see the remains of what was once Ulten Castle rising up on the hill. First mentioned in 1164 and the former seat of the Counts of Ulten, for a long time the castle was owned by the Counts von Trapp. Nowadays, very little of the mighty castle can be still be seen: only the remains of the perimeter wall, the corner of a fortified outbuilding and the imposing keep are left. Today, Eschenlohe Castle is privately owned
