The Ulten Valley has hardly changed over the years, retaining its natural character and authenticity. The hard daily life of the South Tyrolean mountain farmer can still be experienced for real here. The five-part ensemble of the Pilshöfe farmsteads is an example of this. Farmers still earn their daily bread here by working the extremely steep mountain meadows by hand. In days gone by around 50 people lived in the Pilshöfe farmsteads; today there is only one young couple and a few older people.
